Yarn & Yield is built on a simple idea: when people come together to care for the places they belong to, we can create more than any of us could achieve alone.

Membership is an opportunity to be part of that work. Whether you want to support what we’re building, participate in community life, or take a more active role in developing Yarn & Yield and its community benefit enterprises, there is a place for you.

Our membership brings people together around a shared commitment to caring for people, place and the living systems that sustain us. It helps us build the relationships, knowledge, and practical action needed to create the conditions for a regenerative future.

Membership is more than belonging. It’s an opportunity to contribute to something we create together.

We offer two formal membership classes: Community Members and Kin Members.

We also welcome people who want to support our work through a Friend Of supporter role. Each offers a different way to be involved.

Friend Of Yarn & Yield

From $30 per year | Non-voting supporter

You may believe in what Yarn & Yield is creating and want to help us grow, even if you’re not ready to take part in our activities.

Friend Of is a way to support our work and be connected to our wider purpose without taking up a formal membership.

Friend Of supporters do not have voting rights and are not eligible to participate in member activities through this supporter role. To get more involved, you can apply to upgrade to Community or Kin membership.

Voting and Participation

Yarn & Yield is a co-operative. That means members are not simply supporters of an organisation; they are part of the community that helps shape its direction.

Our Constitution establishes two formal membership classes: Community and Kin. Both classes have equal voting rights when they are active. Each active member has one vote on matters they are entitled to vote on, regardless of membership class.

Group memberships have one vote, exercised by the designated main contact or authorised representative, as applicable to the membership.

Friend Of is a supporter role, not a formal membership class, and does not carry voting rights.

Active membership also involves participation. Community Members are expected to take part in at least two co-operative activities in each applicable financial year and complete at least one survey if a survey is conducted. Kin Members have additional contribution commitments. The Constitution provides an exception to these activity requirements during the financial year in which a member joins.

These commitments help ensure that Yarn & Yield remains a living, participating community rather than an organisation supported only by a small group of people.

Membership fees support our shared work

Membership fees help support Yarn & Yield’s primary activities and the development of our community. They support the practical work of bringing people together, caring for land, supporting community benefit enterprises, and creating opportunities for people to contribute.

We are building something that will grow through the participation, ideas, skills and care of our members.

There is no single way to belong. What matters is finding a way to contribute that works for you.
